Preoperative Inflammation Based Prognostic Scores and Mortality after Gastric Surgery
نویسندگان
چکیده
The presence of an inflammatory response is crucial in the development of cancer-associated malnutrition, resulting in poor performance status and increased mortality in patients with cancer. On the basis of the relationship between inflammation and cancer progression, several inflammation-based scores have been proposed as prognostic. The main scores that have been associated with cancer-specific survival are the modified Glasgow Prognostic Scores, neutrophil lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and prognostic nutritional index (PNI) (Pinato 2012; Bugada 2014). To our knowledge, there are not any studies elucidating which of these prognostic scores is more suitable in predicting outcomes in patients with gastric cancer. The aim of this study was to compare the prognostic value of these preoperative inflammation based prognostic scores (NLR, PLR and PNI) in hospital mortality after gastrectomy.

A comparison of the prognostic value of preoperative inflammation-based scores and TNM stage in patients with gastric cancer
BACKGROUND People's Republic of China is one of the countries with the highest incidence of gastric cancer, accounting for 45% of all new gastric cancer cases in the world. Therefore, strong prognostic markers are critical for the diagnosis and survival of Chinese patients suffering from gastric cancer. Recent studies have begun to unravel the mechanisms linking the host inflammatory response t...

BACKGROUND An elevated preoperative C-reactive protein/albumin (CRP/Alb) ratio has been reported to be associated with a poor prognosis for hepatocellular carcinoma. The aim of the present study was to investigate the prognostic value of the preoperative CRP/Alb ratio and compare it with other systemic inflammatory response markers in patients with gastric cancer (GC). METHODS A retrospective...
متن کاملPreoperative neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio plus platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio in predicting survival for patients with stage I–II gastric cancer
BACKGROUND The preoperative neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and the platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) are associated with poor prognosis of gastric cancer. We aimed to determine whether the combination of NLR and PLR (NLR-PLR) could better predict survival of patients after curative resection for stage I-II gastric cancer. METHODS We collected data from the medical records of patients w...
متن کاملPrognostic value of preoperative prognostic nutritional index in stage III gastric cancer after curative resection: a retrospective cohort study
Background and Objectives: Nutrition and inflammation play a crucial role in the development of cancer. The prognostic value of the prognostic nutritional index (PNI) has been confirmed in some types of human cancers. This study analyzed the prognostic significance of the preoperative PNI in patients with stage III gastric cancer after curative surgery. Methods and Study Design: In this retrosp...
متن کاملInflammation-based prognostic score as a predictor of postoperative gastric cancer recurrence.
AIM The aim of our study was to determine whether an inflammation-based prognostic score predicted tumor aggressiveness and disease-free survival (DFS). PATIENTS AND METHODS We retrospectively reviewed 197 patients with locally advanced gastric cancer. The preoperative inflammation-based score was calculated as follows: patients with elevated C-reactive protein (>0.5 mg/dl) and hypoalbuminemi...
